Lots of recommendations! My husband's family spends lots of time there. First beach, the Cliff Walk, take a sail on one of the old 12 meter sailing ships that was used for the America's Cup, shopping down by the wharves. Also lots of great eating: the Black Pearl for chowder, the White Horse Tavern for a nice meal in a historic setting, and the Castle Hill Inn for lunch, dinner or cocktails. Also Scales and Shells for super fresh seafood is a nice option. It's a great town.
